Lenses and Coatings

Spectacle lenses crafted for your lifestyle. Digital lenses individually made for you, from single vision to Varilux lenses.

Choosing the right prescription lenses to go into your new frame is something Ideal Eyes’ dispensing opticians do every working day of their life

There are many lens options to suit your prescription and lifestyle. New hi-tech lenses are being developed all the time to improve your vision.

Lenses

Single vision lenses

The simplest form of lens is the single vision lens correcting basic prescriptions, e.g. reading glasses. People who need a vision correction from a relatively young age will also generally only require a single power of lens to correct the problem.

Bifocal lenses

These lenses correct two focal lengths, normally worn by older patients who require both distance and near correction. These lenses have a line to separate the two prescriptions.

Office lenses

Varifocal lenses

Varifocals are also known as progressive lenses. These are the most complicated form of vision correction, offering a smooth change from distance to near vision.

Varilux X Series – Varifocal lenses

Varilux X is a new generation of lenses allowing you to seamlessly capture every detail within arm’s reach, as well as beyond. We live in a 24/7 connected world, where multitasking is part of our normal life. With our behaviours evolving, our visual needs are also different to what they used to be. Our posture and the way we look at things have changed.

Varilux®X design™ is the best universal Varilux® progressive lens allowing you to seamlessly capture every detail within arm’s reach with high precision, as well as beyond.

Varilux®X design™ lenses dramatically reduce head movement so you don’t have to find the sweet spot.

Lenses for the digitally connected

Eyezen lenses are designed to prevent eye fatigue, improve readability, and reduce light glare for those that spend a lot of time looking at blue-violet light from screens, regardless of whether you need prescription glasses or not.

Blue-violet light sits on the very edge, right next to the harmful, non-visible ultraviolet (UV) light. It can be harmful to our eyes potentially causing eye fatigue and dry eyes.

Eyezen is a range of eye protection lenses designed for those who live a connected life. Whether you work in a digital environment, are a regular video game enthusiast, or are hooked on social media, Eyezen lenses may aid in reducing eye strain throughout the day.

Transitions lenses

Unlike sunglasses, which have a set tint, Transitions lenses are constantly adapting to your surrounding light conditions. The constant and smooth transition allow you to see well in all light conditions reducing the strain on your eyes.

Transitions are also personalised to your style. No matter which glasses frame you choose, we can fit a transition lens in the colour of your choice including Grey, Brown and Graphite Green and four new colours, from the Transitions Style colours collection: amethyst, emerald, sapphire or amber.

Transitions Signature

These lenses are designed to quickly adapt from clear indoors to fully dark in brightest sun, offering a distinct advantage over clear lenses every day. Transitions Signature lenses continuously adapt to changing light so they’re always exactly the shade you need them to be.

  • Completely clear indoors and at night
  • Fast fade back speed
  • Block 100% of UVA & UVB rays

Transitions XTRActive

Extra protection from light, even in the car. Anywhere you go, Transitions XTRActive lenses are uniquely designed to protect your eyes from the brightest sun and harsh artificial light.

  • Extra dark outdoors to protect from the brightest sun, even in the hottest conditions
  • Darken behind the windshield of a car to protect the eyes from sunlight while driving

Polarised lenses - Xperio

Regular sunglasses protect you from bright light, but they don’t stop the glare of polarised light. Xperio lenses are designed to protect your eyes from the polarised, or reflected, light to reduce glare and make your vision in all light conditions clearer.

Coatings

UV coating

UV coating is always worth considering particularly if you spend a lot of time outdoors. The eyes are particularly susceptible to damage from the harmful rays of the sun, which can be a major contributory factor in the development of some eye conditions, such as cataracts.

Anti-reflection coatings

Anti-reflection coatings are applied to the surface of the lens to reduce the reflections from the front and back and to improve the cosmetic appearance of your lenses.

Road Pilot coatings – Reducing glare when driving at night

We are all spending more time on the road, but a lot of us don’t feel as comfortable when driving at night. In fact, 17 million drivers in the UK struggle to see at night.

Lights at night can create reflections and glare on our glasses, and these reflections and glare disturb our eyes, creating discomfort and lower visual acuity. They can come from all directions and different sources (headlights, traffic lights or street lamps), turning the driving experience into an inconvenience more than a real pleasure.

Paired with Crizal Drive anti-reflective coating, Road Pilot offers:

  • Up to 90% less reflections at night, leading to a decrease in glare
  • Optimal clarity of vision during the day and night
  • A larger, more enhanced field of vision for varifocal wearers
  • Complete protection against scratches, smudges, dust, water, harmful UV and blue-violet light
